On behalf of the Officers and Members of Temple Tifereth Israel in beautiful Winthrop-by-the-Sea,
I want to welcome any one who is seeking a friendly, comfortable, and non-judgmental congregation to join with us for any of the relaxed,
and unintimidating services (see listing) as well as for any other religious, spiritual, or social event.
We would be more than happy to provide a tour of the Temple as well as explain all aspects of Temple life.
Mrs. Sandra (Goldstein) Pellegrino
President, Temple Tifereth Israel

Seeing an old friend: On Shabbat, December 17th, we were delighted to be visited by an
old friend, Dr. Martin Sweig and his nephew, Jonathon. Dr. Sweig was a frequent attendee at Temple Tifereth
Israel until he moved out of Winthrop a few years ago. Dr. Sweig and Jonathon stayed thoughout the Shabbat morning
service and the kiddush that followed. It was most enjoyable to get reacquainted with Dr. Sweig and look forward to
having him and other former Temple members visit the Temple whenever they
get the opportunity to return to Winthrop.
We can use your help: The Temple can use your help over the next few months. Some Temple members who are regular
attendees at Shabbat and Sunday morning services will be away from Winthrop during the next few winter months. Other
regulars may find it difficult to attend during inclement weather. It would
be deeply appreciated if you could help to make minyans by attending Shabbat and/or Sunday morning services
over this period of time. Remember, for anyone saying Kaddish, ten people are required to make a minyan. So, if you can,
do a mizvah and give us a few hours of your time. Thank you in advance.

The following events are happening in the month of January.
Additional details will be provided at a later date. Please make every effort to attend as
many of these events as you can. Thank you.
On Sunday, January 15th, the Temple will hold another of the very popular Past Supper and
Pound Auctions. This is always a fun time for everyone. Enjoy a pasta and salad dinner and then
bid on mystery items, including gift certificates and more. Bring the kids. They enjoy the auction
more than the adults. Cost: $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 10 and under. Reservations are
requested. Bring a wrapped item for auction (~ 1 lb.). Specify for adult or child.
On Thursday evening, January 19th, a meeting will be
held at the Temple on the status on the new Temple and Affordable Senior Housing project
and to receive feedback about the project from the local community. This is an opportunity to
get the latest information about the project, to express your thoughts and ideas, and to hear what the community
has to say about the project.
On Thursday evening, January 26th, a meeting with the Winthrop Appeals Board
will be held at the Town Hall. At this meeting variances will be requested to allow the new Temple and
Affordable Senior Housing project to move forward. Inputs from the citizens of the Town will be allowed and it
is very important that as many supporters of the project as possible be present to indicate their support.
Please make every effort to attend this meeting so the needed approvals can be obtained, allowing the projcet
to proceed without further delay.

Some of our Temple members and some members of the Jewish community
in and around Winthrop who are not members of the Temple may have never experienced
their own Bar or Bas Mitzvah. We are offering the opportunity for these people to become Bar or Bas Mitzvah'd.
Your Bar/Bas Mitzvah training will include English and Hebrew and everyone, no matter what their background
or ability, will be able to participate and achieve this wonderful goal.
Contact the Temple at 617.846.1390 for more information. Remember: Everyone
can be a participant, as long as you have the desire. We will accommodate everyone's abilities and needs.

TEMPLE GIFT SHOP
Instead of running around wasting expesive fuel to find a gift for your child, grandchild, or
anyone else, you can buy or order the perfect gift from the Temple's Gift Shop, while helping to support the Temple. The next time
you come to the Temple, check out the Gift Shop display in the corridor located between the All-purpose Room and the Daily Chapel.
The Temple Gift Cart will be available at just about all Temple functions as a convenience to our members and guests. If you don't
find what you want, call the office at 617-846-1390 to see if they can order what you want.

Place a leaf on the Tree of Life in the Main Sancutary to support the Temple while showing
your love and affection for dear friends and relatives. Engraved leafs cost only $180 and there is no more appropriate way
to honor leved ones and to celebrate those special occasions - anniversaries, births, birthdays, etc.
You can order your leaf by providing the Temple with your instructions for the name and
message to be placed on the leaf and sending in your payment. It will nominally take 4 to 5 weeks for your order to be completed.
