Are you interested in an inexpensive 3-day vacation this spring or summer?
If there are enough interested people, the Temple can arrange a trip to the
casinos in Connecticut and a tour of Newport, Rhode Island. Transportation
from/to the Temple would be by air-conditioned bus. You would spend one day and two nights at
the Foxwoods Casino, one day at the Mohegan Sun Casino and one day in Newport.
The approximate cost per person for the 3 days would be $215 during March-June or $269 in August.
At this point in time, we are asking only for expressions of interest
– no commitment is required. If you think you, your family or your friends would like to come on the trip,
please call the Temple (617-846-1390) and leave your name, address, phone number, and/or e-mail address,
along with the number of people that might want to come.
If there is sufficient interest, the Temple will contact you with the
final dates and cost, at which time you can make your reservations. This trip is open to everyone.

Soon the winter will start to fade and spring training will be upon us.
The bitter memories of this past September remain, but we Red Sox fans never say die.
With hope springing eternal, our own Arnold Kaplan has penned a stirring set of
lyrics to be sung to the melody of Pistol Packing Mama. Read on and practice up
for the what may be the replacement to Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline.
VERSE:
Drinking beer in the club house,
And were they having fun.
And they lost a lot of games,
That they should have won.
REFRAIN:
Put that bottle down boys.
Put that bottle down.
It isn't quite right,
To drink that Bud Light.
So, put that bottle down.
VERSE:
They also had fried chicken,
That wasn't the thing to do.
And where'd they buy the chicken?
At Popeye's on Brookline Avenue.
That's the end of my story,
I guess that tells it all.
So, no more of that foolishmess,
And start playing baseball!

At a Board of Directors meeting at the end of November, it was voted to proceed
with the new temple design concept offered by CJNHF. On December 29th, a meeting with held with Mostue Associates,
the architects being utilized by CJNHF and who
will be responsibe for the final design of the new temple. At this meeting, the preliminary design concepts and
requirements were reviewed.
On December 13th, representatives from the Temple, Chelsea Jewish Foundation (CJNHF)
and Affirmative Investments met
with the various Town of Winthrop Department Heads for an internal Site Plan Review meeting. This was the
initial part of the Site Plan Approval process that allows all of the various department heads to give
their feedback on the initial site plan prior to meeting with either the Planning Board
or the Zoning Board. It was a positive meeting and the project received questions and feedback on all
topics (from Fire, Police, Inspectional Services, Conservation Commission, Department of Public Works,
and Accessibility). This was later followed by a letter from the Town Manager outlining the
information and clarifications needed prior to the Building Commissioner issuing a building permit.
The next steps in the process are to submit to the Board of Appeals
and the Planning Board, as well as to meet with the Conservation Commission. A public meeting with the neighbors
is planned for mid January and CJNHF/Affirmative Investments hopes to be in front of the Zoning Board
on January 26th to request the variances
discussed in the December 13th meeting and in the follow-up letter from the Town Manager.
If you can make either of the upcoming meetings in January, please make every
effort to do so. LOTS of support is needed at the Board of Appeals
meeting - that is where they need to hear support from people in the community and especially
from the people who reside next to the Temple.
We will continue to report the project progress on the Temple's web site,
in newsletters to members and in future meetings. Any and all suggestions concerning the project are welcomed.
Remember, this is and will continue to be your Temple.

The sessions are open to all women, and all subjects and topics can be brought up and discussed.
The discussions are strictly informal and are held in the Temple's
All-purpose Room one Saturday each month, starting at 12 noon,
usually on the Saturday following Rodh Chodesh. But,
